Sherlock (2010 – Present)

At first, I was going to write review of Sillicon Valley, but this bestie of mine, whom I guess, the only person who would read this blog, Fathur, asked me to write about Sherlock. He’s already seen it actually. I don’t understand why he wants me to write a review about it. But, it’s okay thou, for you peeps who haven’t watch the series, here is what I think:

You guys maybe have heard about Sherlock Holmes. Yes, brilliant yet eccentric detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This series is based on that, but the modern version. The real Sherlock Holmes story take place in around 1887 (maybe, the first novel published in that year), but this Sherlock happen in nowadays. That is one of many things I love about this series, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, the creators, turn the story that set 1887 into a story that happen today in a really brilliant, genius, awesome way. It doesn’t ruin the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, yet, somehow, they managed to capture the essence of it. Like the characters, their personality, places, they’re showing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s main idea about Sherlock beautifully. For example, the first episode, titled A Study in Pink is loosely based on the first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet. In 1887 I guess there weren’t “pink” yet. This Sherlock uses technologies such as, text, internet, etc but doesn’t go far from the real version. And of course, beside that, who doesn’t love the smart way Sherlock solves crime.

Sherlock View

The cast, oh they did an awesome good job, choosing Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as dr. John Watson. Their acting is so flawless, the director definitely did a good job. And the story pace won’t bored you with long unnecessary conversation, it’s just perfectly fit. Not too slow, not too fast. Unlike The Game of Thrones, it takes a while until you realize it’s a good series and you wanted it more, because the story pace too slow.

Every season doesn’t consist many episodes like others. It only have 3 episodes for each season, and also not like the others, season after season it doesn’t get worse. It still maintain it’s awesomeness, I go total nuts and crazy through every episodes. I literally shout “It is AWESOMMEEEE” in the first time I see it, my husband said I always go “Hulk” around each time I watch a good series, shouting how good it is. Great, now I want to watch, again, for several times laughing So, overall, this is the best drama series I ever watch that haven’t disappointed me so far, oh oh, Newsroom, beside Newsroom, I’ll write about that soon. No doubt, this is a must have item in your going-to-watch list.

Sherlock Cast

Fun fact : in this series, it mention that Sherlock Holmes and dr. John Watson have a blog,, and they really made it and available online for the public as tie-in media. Go visit Sherlock’s homepage, as well as dr. John Watson’ blog. They feature the events from the show in the form of puzzles and case-summaries, often with comments (e.g. by John Watson’s sister, Harry). Also, there are several blogs about ‘unseen’ cases that do not feature on television. Similar to the broadcast cases, these also retain familiar elements from classic Arthur Conan Doyle stories: ‘The Geek Interpreter’ instead of The Greek Interpreter and ‘The Six Thatchers’ instead of The Six Napoleons. On the websites links can be found to Molly Hooper’s diary and the official website of Connie Prince. Other fun fact, Amanda Abbington, Freeman’s real-life partner, plays Mary Morstan, Watson’s girlfriend and eventual wife. And in Season 3, Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton, Benedict Cumberbatch’s real-life parents, are introduced as Sherlock and Mycroft’s parents.
